Spring Art Project – Week-by-Week Overview Week 1 – Signs of Spring (Snowdrops) Media: Pencil A study of early spring growth focusing on delicate snowdrops and emerging plants. Students practise detail, texture, and shading to express freshness and renewal.
Week 2 – Blossoms & Flowers (Close-Up Views) Media: Oil Pastel | Artist Inspiration: Georgia O’Keeffe Close-up floral studies inspired by O’Keeffe, exploring blending, colour harmony, and expressive composition. Focus on two flowers.
Week 3 – Insects & Pollinators (Bees) Media: Acrylic A lively painting project celebrating bees and pollinators. Focus on movement, contrast, and textured brushwork.
Week 4 – Birds Returning Media: Charcoal Charcoal drawings capturing the motion and grace of migrating birds. Students explore tone, softness, and expressive mark-making.
Week 5 – Rain & Reflections (Paris Scene) Media: Watercolour | Artist Inspiration: Gustave Caillebotte Atmospheric rainy street scenes created with layered washes and reflective effects inspired by Caillebotte.
Week 6 – New Growth – Trees & Leaves (Japanese Blossom Tree) Media: Watercolour | Artist Influence: Japanese Art A tranquil cherry blossom study exploring simplicity, brush control, and composition. Includes a word block element.
Week 7 – Landscapes in Bloom (Lily Pond) Media: Acrylic | Artist Inspiration: Claude Monet Impressionist-style landscapes focusing on colour, light, and natural movement inspired by Monet.
Week 8 – Spring Festivals & Traditions Media: Collage | Artist Inspiration: Henri Matisse A bold, colourful collage celebrating global spring traditions using shapes, patterns, and expressive storytelling.
Week 9 – Creatures of Spring (Young Animals) Media: Pencil | Artist Inspiration: Beatrix Potter Observational drawings of young animals focusing on softness, character, and gentle narrative.
Week 10 – Abstract Spring (Expressive Colour) Media: Acrylic | Artist Inspiration: Franz Marc An abstract exploration of spring’s rhythm and energy through expressive brushwork and vivid colour. Includes “Animal Art”.
Week 11 – Garden Life (Still Life) Media: Coloured Pencils A still-life inspired by Franz Marc and Dutch traditions, focusing on balance, light, and thoughtful composition.
Week 12 – Celebration of Spring (Decorative Easter Eggs) Media: Watercolour | Tradition: Ukrainian Pysanky Decorative Easter egg designs featuring symbolic patterns and vibrant colour inspired by traditional Pysanky art.
